3。5 stars。The book has pretty good writing and pretty good art。 It's essentially 3 stories in one book。 It doesn't flow particularly well but the dollmaker story is pretty good。 The short joker story is alright, nothing too special, with a shock-value ending, which i guess is kind of important for the joker arc of the main batman run。 Anyway, this book is pretty good。 I'd recommend getting it if you want more batman books, you like Tony S Daniel, or you want to see the explanation for Death of t 3。5 stars。The book has pretty good writing and pretty good art。 It's essentially 3 stories in one book。 It doesn't flow particularly well but the dollmaker story is pretty good。 The short joker story is alright, nothing too special, with a shock-value ending, which i guess is kind of important for the joker arc of the main batman run。 Anyway, this book is pretty good。 I'd recommend getting it if you want more batman books, you like Tony S Daniel, or you want to see the explanation for Death of the Family。 。。。more

Good story but I found myself having to force myself to read it。

Overall I think this book was great。 There were a few bits were the writing didn’t really make sense but that was only on one or two pages。 The artwork was brilliant throughout and every character was drawn in a unique way which was excellent。 My favourite story arc was probably the doll maker one but I also loved the penguin one too。 I can’t wait too read the next volume and I hope it is as good as this one。

Good story and art。 My only problem is that it was a little gratuitously graphic with the whole face thing。 I have read a bit of the further episodes in this and this whole idea is pretty disturbing。 I acknowledge that this is just a personal thing though and the comic is well done。

I'm giving this 3 stars because of the first half。 The Dollmaker storyline was the reason I picked this one up。 I'm reading things out of order, but not intentionally。 It wasn't until after I read Death of the Family that I looked for the story about how Joker lost his face。 I honestly expected the entire book to be about Joker and the Dollmaker, but instead the second half is a tedious plot about Bruce Wayne's love life and Batman fighting Penguin and his cronies in order to save his girlfriend I'm giving this 3 stars because of the first half。 The Dollmaker storyline was the reason I picked this one up。 I'm reading things out of order, but not intentionally。 It wasn't until after I read Death of the Family that I looked for the story about how Joker lost his face。 I honestly expected the entire book to be about Joker and the Dollmaker, but instead the second half is a tedious plot about Bruce Wayne's love life and Batman fighting Penguin and his cronies in order to save his girlfriend。 。。。more

The Dollface story was the best story out of a pretty mediocre set of stories and sets in place a story thread that will be picked up in the "Death in the Family" event。 The Catwoman 2 page story had cool art but I found the story utterly forgettable。 The Penguin story was a cookie cutter Batman story were the Penguin was not even the main focus。 All in all this was a book that was only saved a two star rating by me thanks to the gorgeous art by Tony S Daniel。 He draws Gotham like he was born in The Dollface story was the best story out of a pretty mediocre set of stories and sets in place a story thread that will be picked up in the "Death in the Family" event。 The Catwoman 2 page story had cool art but I found the story utterly forgettable。 The Penguin story was a cookie cutter Batman story were the Penguin was not even the main focus。 All in all this was a book that was only saved a two star rating by me thanks to the gorgeous art by Tony S Daniel。 He draws Gotham like he was born in it and his framing of the action scenes was dynamic。 。。。more

I believe this is the story where Joker had his face removed。 Pretty disgusting。 I'm not a fan of body horror and there's a ton of it here with a villain called Dollmaker who loves to slice and splice his victims。 Ugh。 This book was part of the New 52 reboot, so I guess readers were meeting Penguin, Joker and Catwoman for the first time in this new era。 Coming to this ten years later when then timeline has been messed with over and again, I can't quite work out what is canon and what isn't anymo I believe this is the story where Joker had his face removed。 Pretty disgusting。 I'm not a fan of body horror and there's a ton of it here with a villain called Dollmaker who loves to slice and splice his victims。 Ugh。 This book was part of the New 52 reboot, so I guess readers were meeting Penguin, Joker and Catwoman for the first time in this new era。 Coming to this ten years later when then timeline has been messed with over and again, I can't quite work out what is canon and what isn't anymore。 Meh。 。。。more

Part of the New 52 era of DC Comics, this book sees Batman start out on the trail of the Joker but subsequently switching to pursue a new serial killer, the flesh-harvesting Dollmaker。This a much darker Batman story than most I've read before, which may be down to the New 52's reboot of the character or it may be down to Daniel's own style; I won't know which until I've read more New 52。 With a villain who harvests and reuses the skin of the dead, not to mention stealing internal organs from the Part of the New 52 era of DC Comics, this book sees Batman start out on the trail of the Joker but subsequently switching to pursue a new serial killer, the flesh-harvesting Dollmaker。This a much darker Batman story than most I've read before, which may be down to the New 52's reboot of the character or it may be down to Daniel's own style; I won't know which until I've read more New 52。 With a villain who harvests and reuses the skin of the dead, not to mention stealing internal organs from the living, this is very much a book aimed at a more mature audience。 The problem is that this aim at older readers feels pretty soulless。 There's a more horrific villain and some pretty disturbing imagery (this is the first appearance of Joker's severed face, for instance), sure, but there's no consequent increase in mature storytelling。 What we actually get is a pretty shallow affair which has various people being captured, then escaping, then Batman beats some people up and then it all happens again。Perhaps a worse flaw than simply being shallow is that the book also feels fairly incomplete。 Due to the multi-series relaunch of the Batman titles, there's a great deal referenced here and plotline begun here that, apparently, get picked up elsewhere。 It feels like a cynical move to get readers to have to buy multiple titles rather than telling self-contained stories in each one。 Then the latter half of this book features a Penguin-focused plotline that comes out of nowhere and more or less goes back there by the end。 Pretty disappointing。* More reviews here: https://fsfh-book-review2。webnode。com/ * 。。。more

A much darker take on Batman。 At times it was almost too much but overall it was a good gritty book。

There was something about this that did not feel like a Batman comic。 They gave Batman really cringey dialogue and things just were not as interesting as they could have been。 Doll face was an alright villain in the first half, but I did not really care about the second half。 The art was amazing and there was a lot of potential but I don't know。。。。。 One thing that this comic did well was incorporate Batman's detective tendencies, and have him solve a case, piece by piece in the first half which There was something about this that did not feel like a Batman comic。 They gave Batman really cringey dialogue and things just were not as interesting as they could have been。 Doll face was an alright villain in the first half, but I did not really care about the second half。 The art was amazing and there was a lot of potential but I don't know。。。。。 One thing that this comic did well was incorporate Batman's detective tendencies, and have him solve a case, piece by piece in the first half which was really well done。 。。。more

I finally got all my books shipped here from my previous address after 4 long years! Including my not-so-big GN collection。 I mean to correct the shortage right away。 First, to finish the New 52。 I've read many of the single issue comics up thru 2015 but quit after that and did not get into the Rebirth so it's time to get caught up now that my GNs are here。 I'm re-reading the few I have from each series and adding in the rest of the books thru the New 52 run (and thank goodness that idiotic name I finally got all my books shipped here from my previous address after 4 long years! Duh, it's a visual medium, but I find that I have to start with 1 star and go from there instead of 0, since for some reason I'm too judgmental。 I enjoyed Faces of Death even though it didn't make a lick of cents。 。。。more

I liked the first half of this a lot, it’s incredibly dark and twisted。 The more I read though, the more confused I got until I didn’t really have a clue what was going on。

3。5 starsThe first half of the volume was engaging and fast-paced。 Joker and the Dollmaker's story was a page turner for me and the fight sequences were beautifully drawn。 It was unsettling and odd in the best kind of way but then the second storyline with the Penguin felt a bit clunky and all over the place。 The introduction of a new eye-patch wearing lady "antagonist" was with no background or easement and the plot kind of just threw in the Penguin without any build-up to why the "mystery" cri 3。5 starsThe first half of the volume was engaging and fast-paced。 Joker and the Dollmaker's story was a page turner for me and the fight sequences were beautifully drawn。 It was unsettling and odd in the best kind of way but then the second storyline with the Penguin felt a bit clunky and all over the place。 The introduction of a new eye-patch wearing lady "antagonist" was with no background or easement and the plot kind of just threw in the Penguin without any build-up to why the "mystery" criminal did what they did。 。。。more

Why am I still asking myself that after all this time? You can't understand the clown and why he does the things he does。 The skin mask stuff is so bizarre but I like it。 It has that "What the fuck? Why?" Joker charm going for it, I guess。 Joker kind of explains his reasoning in Suicide Squad。 He tells Harley that when he removed his face he got rid of the remaining traces of his humanity, that all of his weaknesses were stripped away。 I don't know man, having the nerve endings of your face exposed like that seems like a huge fucking weakness to me。 I know that's not what he meant but seriously。。。goddamn dude doesn't that shit get itchy? In reality though, I feel like the face removal was probably done to mark the transition to New 52 or something。 Symbolizing DC's "rebirth" so to speak。 Dollmaker even says after he cuts it off that they're celebrating their "rebirth"。 Maybe? I don't know, I need to make sense of this shit and I can't。Here's a thing。 Joker likes to strip down naked before he gleefully stabs his victims to death。 So there's that nightmare for you to visualize and enjoy。Can I just say that the balls on this motherfucker to ask Dollmaker to cut his face off after killing his son is just the kind of crazy I love this asshole for。Dollmaker is stupid。 He's pissed at Gordon for killing his father but he doesn't care Joker killed his son? Kind of an inconsistent dickhead if you ask me。Joker left the face behind as a message but Bats didn't even get to lay his eyes upon that horror because Gordon wouldn't let him see it。Dollmaker reminds me of Carrot Top for some reason。 He's supposed to resemble a doll and he does but I've been waiting for this dude to bust out a box of props every time he appears。Thank God I was spoiled on the dead Gordon fake-out, that probably would've stopped my heart。 There are 3 people in the bat-verse you DO NOT fuck with: Alfred Pennyworth, Jim Gordon and Lucius Fox。 Fuck around and find out why。LMAO at the poker dude's talking about Joker。"What's he after?""Ahh, he's after what we're all after—money and broads。 God knows he wouldn't get either with his looks。"Ahem, you've never met me mr。 poker man, you don't know my preferences。 Maybe grotesque, skinned clown men are my thing okay? Maybe I'm into that。 What? Don't give me that look。 You never watched Hellraiser? Ahhh, I'm just kidding。。。or am I? Anyway, wouldn't things be so much easier (and boring) if all Joker wanted was money and women? Our beloved psychotic clown is much more complicated than that though, thankfully。Penguin looks like a fat Joker on the cover of issue 6。In the last two issues there's a few villains that feel like they were ripped straight out of an episode of Venture Bros: Hypnotic, Mr。 Combustible and Mr。 Toxic。 。。。more
